Staff Sergeant Steve WILSON of the South Simcoe Police Service is the 2008 recipient of the MADD Canada Terry Ryan Memorial Award for Police Excellence. Staff Sergeant WILSON received this award on September 27, 2008 at the MADD National Leadership Conference in Toronto.
Staff Sergeant WILSON is a member of the Board of Directors for the local Barrie/Simcoe Chapter of MADD and a long time proponent of road safety in Simcoe County. As the former officer in charge of the South Simcoe Police Traffic and Marine Unit, and his current role as a platoon commander, he was recognized for his support to the local MADD Chapter and for his leadership in the fight to end inpaired driving in Simcoe County. Staff Sergeant WILSON recently spearheaded a county wide driving initiative - "Safe Roads - Your Call" to encourage citizens to use their cell phones to report suspected impaired drivers.
